On Feb 27, after two failed inductions and a C-section, Finn Wilder McMann entered the world at 8:18am 7lbs15oz and 20 inches long. I didn't have the birth that I thought I would, but I wouldn't change anything because I got a perfect, healthy little boy. I hemorrhaged at the start of my C-section and lost a lot of blood and ended up having a transfusion. I don't remember much from the operating room besides being really nauseous, Josh seeing all the blood I had lost and being really nauseous and hearing Finn's cry for the first time. Oh and my midwife commenting "that was a bloodbath". Yup she did say that.
Once I had recovered, things were no less of a blur... Breastfeeding and trying to recover from the C-section and lots of meds. But Finn was perfect and so beautiful, it was the most amazing feeling. We were in the hospital for 4 days, and it seemed like forever. It was nice to be there and know we were safe and looked after but I really wanted a real shower and my bed and to get that baby home. Once we got home, we just had a couple days until my parents arrived. Having them come was the best thing ever. Not only did I get to see them fall in love with their first grand baby but I had some much needed help while Josh was at work. Unfortunately, thanks to this little pain in the butt pandemic, they had to leave a week early. Not only that, but all Josh's parent's trips were cancelled as well as Miranda and Sean's visit. So it has been just Josh and I and Finn for about a month now. Luckily, Josh has been able to work from home for 2 weeks then go to work for 2 weeks, so I have had lots of help and Josh and Finn have been able to bond. I had been so excited to have Finn grow up with Smudge, sadly last week we said goodbye to Smudge, she had an aggressive cancer and was very sick. We couldn't stand to see her suffer. We are so happy that she got to meet her brother and we know she will always watch out for him, but we are so heartbroken and miss her every moment.
We have had lots of firsts, and he is such a sweet happy baby, I just can't get enough. Sleeping has been an adventure. Sometimes he does pretty well, sometimes not so much, but we are working on that. I am just including some pictures, probably some you haven't seen, some you have but I'll just let the baby sweetness sink in.
Congrats!!!
