A VERY HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO MY CANADIAN FRIENDS AND FAMILY!
1. Sunday was the Lower East Side Pickle Day and for the 2nd year in a row Josh and I went. We actually had almost the exact same day as we did last year. We went to REI to look around because Josh got a gift card fro there for his birthday, then to the Pickle Day, and then to this great sports bar "Fool's Gold" to watch the Bears game and they won! Pickle Day had 18 pickle vendors and 56 vendors in total this year so we filled up on delicious samples of pickles from all over NY and beyond. There were some amazing flavors and pickle related items and we came home with some jars of pickles, pickle popcorn and I got the most awesome pickle t-shirt.
2. Last night we went back over to the Lower East Side to the Mercury Lounge to watch one of my favorite Canadian (he's from Alberta) artists with his band, Corb Lund. I have listened to him for years, and have always missed out on going to his concerts at home due to being busy or not being around. When he announced his concert in NYC I assumed we wouldn't be here, so as soon as I knew we were going to be here I bought tickets. He was phenomenal! Love this guy, and such an Alberta boy!
3. After the game, and Pickle Day, we were walking near one of my favorite restaurants in the world that I have been bugging Josh to go back to for months, "The Smile." The restaurant is owned by one of the top chefs in NYC and the food is to die for. It is also one of the greatest locations and ambiences in NYC. I was sad to see that the amazing short rib and polenta that I got last time was no longer on the menu but I decided on the Quinoa and Lentil bowl with pattypan squash, homemade Ricotta and Sauteed swiss chard with a fried egg on top. Phenomenal. Josh got the sliced flank steak with sautéed corn and tomato salsa. Not only was the meal great, Jason Segel from How I Met Your Mother and a crazy amount of movies was sitting a couple tables away with a friend. Josh and I are huge fans so it was pretty exciting!
4. Season 2 of "The Affair" premiered this week.... This is my favorite show and I have been so excited that it was finally starting again. If you don't watch this show, you should be. go back and start at season one or you will have no idea whats going on. you won't regret it. Such a great story!
5. On Saturday Josh and I decided to brave the 50F temperature and go to one of the last New york Red Bulls soccer games. It was a great game against Columbus Crew and the Red Bulls won. I know soccer isn't as huge in the U.S as it is in every there country in the world but if you have never been to a Major league game or international match, you should. There is much more energy, excitement and dedication than any other sporting event you will ever attend.
